Moss Removal and Treatment

WHAT IS ROOF CLEANING?

Roof cleaning is a process that involves the removal and treatment of biofilm which consists of moss, algae, and lichen. If left uncontrolled, the build-up of biofilm can cause damage to a roof due to growth between the cracks and joints of roof tiles. This can be an expensive problem. The cost to replace a roof in the UK can range from £7,000 to £17,000+ depending on the type of roof on your property.

The cleaning process involves scraping off moss by hand from the safety of a scaffold tower. Once it has been removed and the gutters have been cleared, there is an application of HSE approved Biocide that is worked into the roof tiles to kill any remaining biofilm. The Biocide continues to work over the subsequent weeks and months to not only kill and prevent any biological growth returning, but it will actually improve the appearance of the roof itself - adding value to your property and making it stand out on your street.

DO WE JETWASH ROOFS?

No. There are many methods to clean roofs but we choose to scrape the moss off roofs by hand instead – why?

Although jet washing can give a quick and instant clean, if not done properly, it can pose a number of risks, particularly to older roofs. Our method allows us to use bespoke tools designed to work with any roof tile and ensures a gentle yet thorough removal of all biological growth – and you won’t be left with a leaking roof. The application of biocide will work its magic over the months to come and eventually leave you with the result you were looking for.

Roof Cleaning: About

DO WE USE BLEACH OR ACID?

No, we do not use any unlicenced Sodium Hypochlorite.

Although these products can give the illusion of a faster clean time, the properties of such products prevent them from penetrating into micro-cracks in the substrate of surfaces. This can in fact affect the longevity of the overall clean in years to come.

Any chemical or organic product we use is HSE approved and designed to be used as an exterior propety cleaner. Product information and risk assessments will be provided to you as part of your quotation pack to give you peace of mind that we are using professional products for a professional job.

You also have option to choose a 100% organic prodect that contains no biocide or any other chemical. It is non-corrosive, non-toxic, and is 100% environmentally friendly. This option is always given in the quotation pack.
